Born on the water, built in the open
About
The name comes from the Czech word for wind: vitr.
Veetr was created by Jan Linhart, a principal software developer at Acquia who has spent more than a decade working on Mautic, an open source marketing automation platform.
The project has its roots in the Czech Republic. The name comes from the Czech word for wind, “vitr”, where the long “i” is pronounced close to “ee” in English.
Jan sails local regattas with friends and family at Orlik Dam aboard a Micro class sailboat. Veetr grew from the practical desire for portable, understandable sailing instruments that did not depend on a permanently installed electronics system.
The philosophy is simple: knowledge should move freely. Every line of code, circuit diagram, and design file should help sailors, makers, and contributors understand the instrument they rely on.
